The Caverns of Hipparchus
The Caverns of Hipparchus is a work of generative geometric art. In choosing the title, I wanted to acknowledge the role of Hipparchus of Nicaea in the artwork's creation. Hipparchus was a Greek astronomer and mathematician who is generally credited with inventing trigonometry - which I used in order to create the system of shapes from which this artwork is composed. The caverns part of the title is a reference to the suggestion (quite intentional) of being in a chaotic network of caves. This artwork was created using a generative geometric art program I wrote for the purpose of creating and exploring a 3D shape system.
