Remembering Apollo
Remembering Apollo is a piece I did in tribute to the Apollo program. It was Apollo that showed us that humanity need not be confined to the surface of the Earth until its demise. One of my favorite quotes about the Apollo program was made by Neil Armstrong, the Apollo 11 astronaut who was the first person to set foot on the surface of the Moon: In my own view, the important achievement of Apollo was a demonstration that humanity is not forever chained to this planet, and our visions go rather further than that, and our opportunities are unlimited.
Read my Remembering Apollo blog post for a more complete explanation of my motivation for creating this piece as well as its composition. A full size detail portion of the art can be seen in this section of Remembering Apollo.
With respect to technique, I created this artwork using a generative painting program that I was in the process of developing. To tell the truth, I'm not a fan of how this artwork turned out but decided to share it anyway.
