I have a confession. I spend barely any time on social media and frequently am away for months at a time. When it comes to competition for my time, social media regularly loses out.

I recall that in one workshop I held on how to use social media, I related the following tale:

Back when Twitter was only a few years old, I attended an online class about how to best use Twitter. The one thing that stuck with me was the instructor's statement that she spent at least 3 hours a day every day on Twitter and that's what it took to be a success. My first thought was what a huge waste of time. The time spent tweeting, liking tweets, retweeting tweets, and reading tweets is time not spent on all the other things life has to offer.

So while I am conversant with respect to a variety of social media platforms, you will not find me there (unless you are exceptionally lucky).
