Online Art Collections and Databases Links
Following is a short list of some of the many online art collections and art database web sites that I found to be particularly useful and usable.
- Web Gallery of Art
- What can I say but that the Web Gallery of Art is one of my favorite destinations. The collection consists of European painting and sculpture of the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism and Romanticism periods (1100-1850). The collection has over 18.400 reproductions online with large images. I highly recommend this site.
- American Masters from Bingham to Eakins Online Exhibit
- The National Gallery of Art John Wilmerding Collection - an online gallery of "American Masters from Bingham to Eakins". Well worth a visit.
- Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists
- The ASFA (Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists) is a gallery of art submitted to the site by ASFA members. If you are a fan of science fiction art, then this site is worth visiting.
- Complexification Gallery of Computation
- Complexification is a wonderful gallery of algorithmic art.
If the imagination is shackled, and nothing is described but what we see, seldom will anything truly great be produced in either Painting or Poetry.
